The Butcher Nine Streets: Crushing Burger Cravings in Amsterdam
Written by Salvatore DiBenedetto [The Grubfather]
THE BUTCHER has staked its spot in the world of excellent fast casual grub. Multiple locations in Amsterdam have given it the opportunity to meet the entire city's tongue. My four day adventure in Amsterdam seems to have faded into the fog of one long day yet I vividly remember coming face to face with THE BUTCHER at their Nine Street's location.
Candy, Pete and I had just finished a lively political conversation in a coffeehouse with some Frenchmen when the hunger came. This ravenous sandpit ignited one of those deep cravings that leave you almost desperate. I needed a burger and I needed it now. In what I'd later realized was a bit of a frantic tone, I questioned the barista where to find a quality burger in the area.
His reply was almost immediate: "THE BUTCHER."
Trudging a few blocks through the roads, we came upon it. A massive fake cow hung by its feet in the entrance, taunting me. I moved forward, entering THE BUTCHER's location at 9 Streets, face-planting into a sleek, edgy ambiance permeating with the sizzling aroma of burgers. My friends and I gushed over the dynamic menu of craft burgers, quickly choosing to let our stomachs guide the way.
In what seemed like a frenzy of plates, we sampled our way through nearly the whole menu. One thing remained consistent: the burgers were incredible. Here are the most note-worthy:
The Daddy: Aberdeen beef, melted Edam cheese, streaky bacon, BBQ sauce & grilled onion.
Silence of the Lamb: Prime New Zealand lamb with spices, herbs, tahini & grilled onion.
The Codfather: Fresh blue cod beer battered served with chips & homemade tartare sauce.
Also to be noted: THE BUTCHER's Fries & Chicken Nuggets were serious munchie crushers.
After polishing off my last bite, it was clear that THE BUTCHER is well deserving of its spot in the best burger game of Amsterdam. Nine Streets proved to be a super causal, yet insane grub experience. Hit it up with friends when the hunger strikes.
